Penguins - Spy in the Huddle

The last part to the BBC documentary series 'Pengiuns - Spy in the huddle' was on this week. This creative program uses undercover spycams in the form of penguins, rocks and ice to film up close the true characters of penguins. I love watching wildlife documentaries, and this series definitely showed a new insight to these fascinating creatures. The technology behind the penguin cams was incredible, and all the colonies accepted them as one of their own. This enabled the team to film some never before seen characteristics of the penguins.

Producer John Downer said that he had never got so close to any subject for such a long period of time. Thata there was so much detail that you cannot watch without being moved.

"Throughout all the filming, penguin cams became part of the penguins lives. They have witnessed countless events that have never been seen before. And even became part of the huddle. But being accepted also provoked jealousy, and things didn't always go to plan. And even though none of them got eaten in the process, a couple did manage to get caught up in some penguin love triangles." 

It was very amusing to watch the rockhopper penguin 'flirt' with the spycam, and then to have its jealous mate beating it up! The Rockhoppers also like to take a ride on the rockcam, and many penguins tried to adopt the egg cams!

Frozen Planet

This new David Attenborough series Frozen Planet has been absolutely stunning. The filming is beautiful, the animals are so funny and every episode is really emotional. I love seeing behind the scenes how extreme the conditions were for the camera crew. Living amongst thousands of penguins sent them a bit crazy at one point! There have been some fantastic slow motion shots of the animals but the most impressive so far were the snowflake formations. Each one is unique, two identical snowflakes have never been found!

We are half way through the series now, I am really intruiged to see the final episode, which addresses the issue of global warming. There has been some controversy recently in the news as the bbc are planning to sell the series abroad without the seventh episode, as countries abroad are sceptical to climate change. But I agree with this line from the guardian "Frozen Planet has a duty to inspire debate as well as wonder". Frozen Planet is on again on Wednesday at 9pm.

How stunning was Sophie Habibis this weekend on the X factor? Her make over transformation was one of the best out of the 16 finalists, her dark hair and fringe really suit her face and bring out her eyes. Her gold eyeshadow was stunning, her eyes looked huge, and to top it off she has the most beautiful voice, singing a Katy Perry cover.
