Ohh Deer Homewear - Illustrated Cushions

I love these cushions from online shop and website ohh deer. The brand was founded by Jamie Mitchell and Mark Callaby in 2011, and have a number of illustrators working with them to create beautiful products from stationary and cards to home wear and phone cases.

"Above all things, the brand aims to be fresh. There are increasing number of companies who produce the same recipe of ‘ordinary’. Ohh Deer wanted to take the work of exceptional illustrators and create something extraordinary, objects that everyone can adorn their houses with, or pop in the post for a friend’s birthday. we promise to continue finding and producing work that you will love for one reason or another, be it through ungodly cuteness or obscene vulgarity."

They have many products with really beautiful prints but my favourite by far are these handmade cushions. Each one is made to order in the UK. I wish I could buy them all, they would definitely brighten up my little flat! For a list of all the illustrators involved and to buy these cushions and many more yourself, look on the ohh deer website. http://ohhdeer.com/

Also follow ohh deer on facebook for daily uploads from their blog. There are definitely lots of funny and inspiring pictures that will put a smile on your face.

3Doodler First 3D Pen

I thought the idea of printing in 3D was incredible, but now there is a pen which you can draw your own three dimensional sculptures instantly! The 3Doodler is the world's first pen to do this and was created by wobbleworks. The pen uses ABS plastic which is the same material used by many 3D printers. The pen has an inbuilt heater which melts the plastic and it comes out the end like a cake-icer or super glue gun. However the plastic instantly cools and stays suspended in the air where the user had drawn it. Watch their video to see how the pen draws shapes which freeze in the air as if my magic! It looks so fun!

Samuel Silva - Photorealism Portraits

Its hard to believe that these pieces are in fact hand drawn and not photographs! These incredible illustrations are the work of portugal based Samuel Silva. Amazingly, art is his hobby and not his main profession. His pieces are drawn with coloured ball point pens, and he uses the technique of cross hatching layers to 'blend' the colours and create a photo realistic style. The drawings can take up to 50 hours to produce! I wish I had enough patience to practice his style of drawing as it is so stunning. You can see more of Samuel Silva's work here http://vianaarts.deviantart.com/gallery/.

Lani Paxton Illustration

Stunning illustrations by Australian artist Lani Paxton. Her designs portray the beauty of endangered animals and brings awareness of their delicate existance. I love the detail in the drawings combined with the colourful patterns in the background emanating from the animals. Lani chose to draw animals protected by the WWF to show what was 'most inspiring about the Earth's habitats and species and why we should all help them to thrive'.

"I chose the humpback whale from the list of endangered species as they are such beautiful majestic creatures. I added the splashes of colour to give the graphite illustration another dimension and add a fresh design approach. This technique is also intended to enforce a sense of beauty radiating from the animal."

You can see a collections of Lani's prints and cards in her shop at www.lanipaxton.bigcartel.com/.

Anna Wright

I absolutely love Anna Wright's mixed-media collages and illustrations of animals. The combination of ink and fabric is so beautiful, and the different textiles used create such colouful pieces. You can buy her work in most card and gift shops as well as galleries, I want to frame a few for my bedroom.

Anna works in her studio in Edingburgh, you can find more of her work on her website

You can also follow her on blogspot at

Yulia Brodskaya

Yulia is one of my favorite paper artists. She uses the technique of quilling which involves rolling strips of paper to create patterns and images. Yulia glues the paper together to create amazing typography and illustrations. This new project is called Love Doves, there is so much depth and detail to the piece. It is really interesting to see how the image was penciled in before the strips of paper were applied. I have tried this technique before, and I was hopeless at it!

You can see more of Yulia's work on her website http://www.artyulia.com/.

Hero

Wow this is an incredible piece of work by Miguel Endara. This stipple drawing of his fathers photocopied face was drawn using 3.2 million dots!! I would never ever have the patience to do this, or to even count the dots! The project took an incredible 210 hours. Check out his website here to see the portrait in hight resolution, you can zoom right in to see each individual dot. http://miguelendara.com/. I have found some really great illustration work recently, I really wish I was as talented with a pen. Look at these Spiral drawings by Chan Hwee Chong, and these Phtotorealistic drawings by Juan Francisco Casas.

Faber Castell

These incredible spiral drawings are the work of Singapore based designed Chan Hwee Chong. The pieces were created to show the precision and control of the Fabel Castel Pens. There is a video directed by Eric Yeo to show the pure skill involved to create these great pieces of work. There is a set of three portraits, The Mona Lisa, Girl with a Pearl Earring, and Van Gogh's Self Portrait. watch the video below and check out the project here on behance http://www.behance.net/gallery/Faber-Castell/2267302

Thursday

Photorealistic

When I first saw these images I assumed they were photographs taken with a blue filter. Even after a closer look I still did not believe they were hand drawn with a biro. Yes a BIRO! Its unbelievable, they look so realistic! Juan Francisco Casas is a spanish artist and his breathtaking pieces of work have been exhibited all over the world. Each image is around 10ft high and can take up to four ball point biro pens to draw! His inspiration comes from his own photographs of nights out with his firends.

You can see his website here http://www.juanfranciscocasas.com/

Also check out my friend Bex Harmen, she is also a very talented artist drawing with biros. I wish I could draw!
